Disability Awareness Day
-By Mike Cohn

Disability Awareness Day for Minnetonka Jr. High Students was presented on April 17th, 2002 by Promote Awareness. Promote Awareness' role in the Minnetonka Jr. High Disability Awareness Day was to help find other speakers and to give two presentations of their own. During the presentation by Promote Awareness the students learned about Assistive Technology devices that people with disabilities may use in the workplace.

The students first looked at the Technology in the Workplace video. Next there was time set aside to work in groups of two and look over the handouts. Finally the students asked many pointed questions about disability issues and technology.

During the day the students had the chance to see a number of presentations. One of the highlights during the day was a demonstration by Courage Center Wheelchair Basketball Team for all the students and staff.
